Private Residence: Porch Spaces

Now is the perfect time of year to start thinking about your porches. The weather is warming up, flowers are blossoming, color is showing up everywhere; your porch is the perfect place to blend indoor comfort with the beauty of the season! We recently worked on a new color scheme for the front and back porch of a client’s Highland, Utah home. She already had her main furniture pieces but the cushions and pillows were calling for a breath of fresh life. Fortunately, we have a great selection of indoor/outdoor fabrics that will spice up any space in a jiffy!

For the back porch sofa cushions, we chose a smaller, “New England” style of pin stripe instead of the typical larger stripe usually seen in outdoor furniture. We brought in blues and greens with our accent pillows, and added a pop with some bright blue cushions on the chaise. Our goal was to create a space where the eye can move freely, without any hard stopping points.

We also chose to add some eclectic side tables, a trunk, and a sisal rug. A neutral rug gave us a great base to work with and we added faux bois tables to give the space a collected and eclectic feel. We love the idea of trunks in outdoor spaces; they are fun and great for storing pillows and extra blankets for a chilly spring night.

On the front porch we continued with the bright pops of green we were seeing on the back and mixed it up by adding in a splash of red.  Red can be a very dominating color, so we decided to use “red’s younger sister” in this palate.

We had a fun time updating the existing pillows and cushions, adding a few new pieces of furniture, and creating a fresh, colorful new look just in time for Spring!

High Point Market 2012

So many beautiful things and so little time! We started our second day at Cisco Brothers. They have a beautiful showroom with these amazing old windows letting the natural light filter in. This day was gloomy and overcast but made the beautiful glass jug pendants shine even more colorful and bright. They had several new fabrics to introduce. The pop of magenta on this tufted ottoman was a fun twist.

Look for this Emma Bed coming soon! Cisco is known for their high end casual look with a perfectly wrinkled linen slipcover, comfortable and livable.

On the hunt for some new artwork -

Loved this colorful take on vintage spice labels... It's on it's way! And these beautiful landscapes - the watery look is so calming and serene.

We stopped by Sugarboo Designs to take a look at their whimsical designs. These metal hearts were so charming... and they are coming! So is this colorful little saying!

Loved looking at one of our favorites - Form and Pheromone. We have a few of these sparkling crystals on their way!

These mosaics were inspiring. Look at all of those colors! Each of those are real and exist in nature, looking just like that, carefully chosen by artist, Christopher Marley.

And one of our all-time favorites - Oly Studio. Those alabaster urns are AMAZING with the light filtering through the windows.

When we walked in the showroom this is what we saw - and the photo doesn't even do it justice! The salmon silk and velvet was beautiful!

And this ROOM... The contrast of the black leather with the pink linen was to die for and that mural, oh that mural! Our friend, Tyler Huntzinger did this room. It was absolutely gorgeous.

And last, but most certainly not least was our visit to the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams showroom. We had the pleasure of meeting with both Mitchell and Bob. This is Mitchell with Jessica and Adam. Everyone at MGBW are the nicest most humble people and have a beautiful showroom. Can't wait to share all of the new things for fall with you! Just know, that everything is fantastic and we are so excited for all of the new items coming to the store!

Don't forget about the MGBW sale that's going on now! It ends at the end of the week so be sure to come in and get your order in to participate.

High Point Market 2012 - Alexa Hampton, Thomas O'Brien and Suzanne Kasler

Alexa Hampton's space was so sophisticated, full of luxe, rich colors and textures. Loved the mix of peacock and that lemon yellow.

And we had the pleasure of meeting Alexa herself! She was so pleasant and down to earth despite her amazing talents.

Thomas O'Brien is always a favorite. His close attention to detail in his furniture design down to the small accessories is amazing. Loved the scale of this mirror and how he layered it with the cabinet.

Anyone recognize this secretary? It was Carrie's desk in the second Sex and the City movie. It was backordered for quite some time when the movie came out. Isn't it lovely? And check out that styling!

Suzanne Kasler's space is always so fresh and fabulous. I loved this console floating in the middle of the room. The scale of the accessories on the console and the ottoman were perfect!

Pretty in pink. Isn't this the sweetest room you've seen? It featured Suzanne's fabrics and furniture.

High Point Market 2012 - Hable Construction for Hickory Chair

Hable Construction's line of fabrics this Market were as artful and beautiful as ever. Their concept boards were so inspiring! I couldn't stop staring. It was so interesting to learn about their processes. I was so impressed with this brushstroke fabric that had started out as just a study.

Isn't the artwork amazing? These were originals for sale at the showroom! We had the pleasure of meeting Susan Hable and her assistant. They were so stylish and so personable!

High Point Market 2012 - Thom Filicia

We're always a big fan of Thom's but this Market we were completely in love! This room was done in a dark charcoal gray but with all of the natural light and the way that Thom used his artwork and fabrics, the room didn't feel dark at all - just sophisticated and lovely.

Loving all of the great colors - isn't that artwork amazing? And we were lucky enough to meet with Thom and have him explain his beautiful designs this season. We loved his high energy! So talented and personable.

Private Residence - Living Room

Jessica and I have been so excited to share this before and after project with you! It truly shows you how an existing space can have a dramatically different look and feel with a little finesse. When we first walked into this established estate, impressed as we were, it did not exactly reflect our client's free-spirited personality! She and her husband travel often and have the most extensive art collection! Each object has an adventure associated with it and we felt so privileged to be welcomed in and asked to reinvent the space!

The initial request was to open things up and lighten things up! A common request nowadays but for this particular client we knew it had to be spirited, traveled and have integrity with the very European exterior.

To begin, we took everything out of the space and stared at the shell of the room. It was beautiful and grand and didn't require much improvement aside from new carpet. After the carpet was installed we rearranged the furniture to create a more open space plan. The second you enter a room, you should know exactly where you are, what the purpose the room is and what the personality is going to be! This was a music room for concerts, a living room for visiting, and a study.

Our clients existing rug was a silk hand-knotted rug from India. We fell in love the moment we laid eyes on each other and were so excited to try and give it a fresh breath of life. It wasn't nearly large enough to use by itself but when layered with a striped sisal, was absolutely perfect! We relocated the piano so we could nest and ottoman for additional seating and changed the orientation of the sofa to open the space and allow the eye to travel up and admire the fireplace and amazing painting that crowns the room. One of our favorite features in the space is the high coffee table used as a study table! We layered their books and albums atop so that they and their guests can stop and take a gander at some of the places they've been and love. Sitting up to the table is Suzanne Kasler's iconic quatrefoil chair in a blue and gold faux bois as well as two caramel colored leather ottomans. We can just imagine a game being played here with grandchildren or an evolving puzzle that you can return to again and again! I could go on and on, but I will let you look and discover and find where your favorite seat would be in this little living room!
